[ARCHIVED] Grant Funds Boost Oakland Park's Urban Forest

Protecting and increasing the local tree canopy is a priority for Oakland Park, which has been a Tree City USA for over 30 years. Since 2015, the City has invested more $500,00 to plant more than 1,000 trees throughout the community.

The city recently planted 54 native trees in City Park, which is under construction at 3900 NE Third Avenue. Thanks to a $20,000 Urban and Community Forestry grant, the City was able to engage a local landscape contractor to work on Phase One of City Park, which will also enhance Oakland Park’s urban forest and increase the local tree canopy.

The City was grateful to receive technical and financial grant assistance from the U.S. Forest Service, the Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services, and the Florida Forest Service.

City Park is one of the bond projects underway as part of the Comprehensive Facilities Plan aimed at Building Oakland Park’s Second Century. Phase One of City Park, which is expected to open later this year, will include a new splash pad, playground, basketball courts, and renovated pickleball courts and concession stand.
