Loakl News 081423

The City of Oakland Park received two awards from the Florida League of Mayors (FLM), including the Mayor’s Municipal Innovation Award for the Senior Food Delivery Program and the City Catalyst Grant Program award for the Little Free Libraries initiative. Oakland Park Vice Mayor Mitch Rosenwald accepted the awards on August 9th, 2023, on behalf of the City during the Florida League of Mayors Business Meeting, which took place in conjunction with the Florida League of Cities Annual Conference in Orlando.

The City earned the Mayor's Municipal Innovation Award in the Quality of Life category for its homebound senior food delivery program, which implemented a creative solution to demonstrate a commitment to the community and enhance the quality of life for residents. Since late 2022, Oakland Park has partnered with HandsOn Broward and Farm Share each month to deliver meals to about 100 elderly, homebound seniors.

The City was also awarded a $2,375 grant to create a network of Little Free Libraries, which will provide access to free books and cultivate a love of reading throughout the community.
