New Street Paving in Progress

Residents - be on the lookout for newly paved roads in Oakland Park! Earlier this year, the City Commission approved plans to repave close to eight miles of streets with the assistance of $2.8 million in transportation surtax funding. The paving project kicked off in October and is expected to be completed in January 2024.

The roads to be improved are mainly neighborhood streets both east and west of I-95. Voters of Broward County approved the “Penny for Transportation” one-cent surtax in 2018 to fund a 30-year Mobility Advancement Program (MAP Broward) to enhance transportation throughout the county.

The City owns and maintains approximately 21.8 miles of roadways in Oakland Park. These roads do not include major corridors such as Dixie Highway, Oakland Park Boulevard, or Commercial Boulevard.

In 2017, Oakland Park conducted a citywide pavement survey to assess roads and generate a Pavement Condition Index (PCI), a national standard for measuring pavement conditions. PCI Condition Ratings are Good, Satisfactory, Fair, Poor, Very Poor, Serious, and Failed. Survey results for city-owned and maintained roadways in Oakland Park reflected an overall roadway rating of 81, or satisfactory, on a scale of 1 to 100.

Surtax funding will be used to repave roads deemed most in need of repair. Following a competitive bid process, the City selected All County Paving to make the road improvements.

The resurfacing project is part of a comprehensive effort to enhance major corridors, improving roadway appearance and functionality. Oakland Park has invested millions into roadway improvements throughout the City recently, including resurfacing and landscaping projects on Powerline Road, Prospect Road, NW 21st Avenue, Andrews Avenue, and Park Lane.
