Happy 94th Birthday Oakland Park!

_Loakl News 070523

Oakland Park turned 94th on Saturday, July 1st! The City Commission gathered with members of the community in late June to celebrate this major milestone.

After the Florida real estate boom and bust of the 1920s, the City was incorporated on July 1st, 1929, led by a community of farmers and ranchers who had settled in the area. Oakland Park has come a long way in the last 94 years and is gearing up for its centennial in 2029. To learn about the history of Oakland Park and to view historic photos, click here.

The City is currently in the midst of the Building Our Second Century initiative, a ten-year, bond-funded facilities plan that sixty-seven percent of voters approved in 2018 to construct and renovate several facilities, including City Park and Fire Station 9. With four groundbreakings and two ribbon cuttings in the past year alone, Oakland Park’s transformation is kicking into high gear. Watch the Oakland Park On the Move video below to learn more.
