For the 19th consecutive year, the City of Oakland Park has been honored by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) with its Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the City’s fiscal year 2023 budget.
According to GFOA, the award represents a significant achievement by the City and reflects the commitment of the City Commission and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. To receive the award, the City had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation, which assess how well a City budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a method of communication. Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America.
GFOA is a professional association dedicated to enhancing the public finance profession since 1906. It has over 21,000 active members. The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program, which began in 1984, encourages local governments to prepare and issue budget documents of the highest standard for the benefit of the citizens and other parties with a vital interest in the budget process.
Receiving the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the GFOA is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting. The City of Oakland Park is proud of this honor, which reflects our commitment to sound financial practices and transparency as we build our second century.
In keeping with the City’s reputation for careful financial management, the City is recommending a reduced millage rate for next fiscal year, 2024, which runs from October 1, 2023 to September 30, 2024. The final public hearing on the FY24 millage rate will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2023.
