Greenscape Glow-Up: Dixie Highway To Get a Refresh

City News Flash Posted on January 12, 2026

A greener, more welcoming Dixie Highway corridor is on the way. In the coming weeks, Oakland Park will begin a new beautification project along Dixie Highway—from the south City Limit to Cypress Creek Road—bringing fresh landscaping and new irrigation to twelve areas of work along one of our community’s most visible corridors. Six (6) of these areas include medians, while the remaining six (6) focus on improvements along the roadway shoulders. It’s another step in the public-space upgrades that reflect the look and feel driving Oakland Park’s “Brooklyn of Broward” identity.

The Notice to Proceed is expected to be issued by mid-January 2026, allowing work to begin shortly afterward. This project will include new landscaping to create a more inviting streetscape and new irrigation to help keep plantings healthy and vibrant year-round—whether located in medians or along the roadway edges.

The project cost is just under $600,000. A Florida Highway Beautification Grant of more than $200,000 will cover a portion of the costs, helping Oakland Park invest in corridor improvements while maximizing outside resources. Work is expected to take approximately seven months, and crews will make improvements in phases as each work area is installed.

Dixie Highway is a key route for residents, customers, and visitors—and a major connector for local businesses. These improvements are part of Oakland Park’s ongoing effort to beautify the city and enhance major corridors, strengthen neighborhood pride, and create streets that feel more attractive, cared for, and welcoming—hallmarks of the Brooklyn of Broward experience.

We appreciate everyone’s patience as this work gets underway—and we’re excited to deliver another visible upgrade that helps Oakland Park continue to look and feel its best.
