Public Works
Public Works is a multi-faceted, service-oriented Department, tasked with providing uninterrupted delivery of services to the residents, business owners and visitors in Oakland Park.
Mission
In keeping with our City Mission Statement, all members of our Department continue to strive to provide dedicated friendly, quality service in the most responsive, cost effective, and efficient manner possible to our residents, businesses and visitors in our diverse community.
Divisions & Services
The Public Works Department consists of administrative, managerial, supervisory, skilled trades, semi-skilled trades, and clerical professionals supporting eight divisions which fall into two main areas as shown below. The Public Works Department provides many essential and supporting services.

The Public Works Department delivers a vast array of services including the essential elements of delivering safe potable (drinking) water, wastewater (sewer) collection, and solid waste collection including garbage, recycling and monthly unlimited bulk trash pickup.
The Public Works Department is responsible for maintenance of safe roadways, sidewalks, rights of way, City facilities (buildings), City vehicles (fleet), and equipment. The department also maintains existing storm water drainage facilities in compliance with our Federally mandated National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit (includes regular maintenance (cleanup) of waterways and lakes). The department also integrates sustainability and resilience into daily operations, prioritizing environmentally responsible practices that protect natural resources and enhance community well-being.

Important Information
- There are bacteria, viruses and parasites in your dog's poop?--YUCK!
- The EPA has labeled dog waste as a non-point source pollutant, similar to herbicides, insecticides, oil, grease and toxic chemicals.
- Fecal coliform bacteria can cause intestinal illness and serious kidney disorders in humans.
It's the law! Section 4-8 of Broward County's Chapter 4 Ordinance requires pet owners to pick up after their dog. Learn more here.
