More… A study is underway to explore commuter rail service on the Florida East Coast (FEC) Railway, from Aventura in Miami-Dade County to Deerfield Beach in Broward County. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) technical team has analyzed potential train stop locations along the FEC corridor and recommends that one be in our downtown. Our city has pursued the goal of a rail platform in our downtown for more than a decade. This is an exciting time. With the downtown properties poised for revitalization, a potential platform along Dixie Highway could support development and spur economic growth throughout the area. A rail stop could see downtown properties increase as much as 20 to 30 percent in value within three to five years, in addition to stimulating our economy, increasing mobility and walkability, and shaping the future of Oakland Park. More… The Keep Oakland Park Beautiful Award recognizes locations that significantly enhance the beauty, environmental quality, and character of Oakland Park through thoughtful upgrades, landscaping improvements, and sustainable practices. This award is given by the City of Oakland Park Beautification Advisory Board/ Keep Oakland Park Beautiful Board to local residential and commercial properties. Nomination forms will be accepted February 1 - March 31 for the Spring Awards, and accepted July 1 - August 31 for the Fall Awards. The Board will then discuss and vote on the nominees at their next scheduled monthly meeting. Each award recipient will be recognized at a regular Commission Meeting and receive an Award Certificate denoting their achievement.Less…
