From Plans to Progress: Veterans Park and Stevens Field Improvements Begin January 5

City News Flash Posted on December 24, 2025

Oakland Park is growing in exciting ways—with new projects underway to improve our parks, streets, and public spaces. These upgrades are about building a stronger, safer, and more connected community for everyone. With over $130 million invested in improvements over the past five years, the City is delivering progress you can see—one project at a time.

Next up: two major park projects west of Dixie Highway. Construction will begin Monday, January 5, 2026, at Veterans Park and Stevens Field, bringing meaningful improvements that expand recreation, enhance safety, and make everyday park visits more comfortable and accessible. From improved lighting and walkable paths to new amenities and gathering spaces, these upgrades are designed to help residents move more, stay longer, and enjoy their neighborhood parks in new and enhanced ways.

Stevens Field: Upgrades for Play, Fitness, and Everyday Use
Stevens Field improvements will add amenities and extend the park’s functionality. The new restroom building along with new amenities will be available for public use, LED sports lighting to support efficient evening use, a multipurpose field,  field grading and new sod for a safer surface, new irrigation for the field, a perimeter multi-purpose walking trail to encourage fitness and accessibility, and new site furnishings such as benches, bike racks, trash cans and bleachers—creating comfort for spectators, families, and anyone enjoying time outdoors.

Veterans Park: Better Access and More Ways to Enjoy the Water
At Veterans Park, residents can look forward to a new kayak launch, a paved trail, new site furnishings (including benches, bike racks, and trash cans), enhanced lighting to improve safety and usability, resurfaced parking, and accessibility improvements—all delivered with a focus on preserving the park’s natural beauty and protecting the existing ecosystem, while expanding recreational opportunities and making it easier for more people to enjoy the waterfront.

Both projects are expected to be completed by late summer 2026. The parks will be closed until renovations are completed. Thank you for your patience as we continue investing in the places that bring our community together—and keep Oakland Park moving forward.
