Oakland Park proudly features original works from local artists each month at the Ethel M. Gordon Oakland Park Library. This January, we are delighted to showcase the creative expressions of two talented artists, Regina Skane and Gary Dunning.
Regina Skane: Beyond Earthly Delights?
Regina Skane's exhibit, Beyond Earthly Delights? offers a glimpse into her unique artistic journey and philosophical approach to creativity. Her work features a diverse mix of media, including ink, colored pencils, watercolor, markers, and acrylics. With a touch of whimsy and depth, her art draws inspiration from the beauty of nature, everyday objects, and life's serendipities. Regina's exhibit invites viewers to interpret her works and uncover personal meaning.
Regina's artistic journey began later in life, after dual careers in the medical field and theater. A graduate of the University of Connecticut and Long Island University, she found her artistic voice in Florida as a member of 9Muses Art Center and the Broward Art Guild. Today, Regina continues to explore art, poetry, and storytelling. Visit her exhibit to experience her vivid portrayal of the fragile yet beautiful connection we share with the world.
Gary Dunning: A Journey with Thread Art
Gary Dunning’s journey into the art world began in regional theater, where he spent over 45 years as a lighting designer, earning critical acclaim and Carbonell Award nominations. Following his "retirement," Gary sought a new creative outlet and discovered the unique medium of thread art. This technique combines thread and acrylics to create intricate, textured works. Within seven months, Gary completed over 50 pieces, and his passion for this art form led him to the Broward Art Guild.
Gary and his wife quickly became integral members of the Guild, with Gary co-chairing development initiatives and his wife coordinating volunteer efforts. His work reflects a love for experimentation and community, brought to life through meticulous craftsmanship.
Both artists extend their gratitude to the Broward Art Guild and the Ethel M. Gordon Oakland Park Library for providing a platform for them to share their work with the community. Stop by the library at 1298 NE 37th Street to view their exceptional exhibits, which run through the end of the month.
