City Volunteer and Kiwanis Team up for Kindness Rocks

City News Flash Posted on May 01, 2023

Oakland Park Elementary School recently received an extra dose of TLC, kindness, and positivity thanks to the City’s Volunteer Corps, the Kiwanis Club of Oakland Park and community advocates, who teamed up to revitalize the school’s entrance area with the addition of Kindness Rocks.

Kindness Rocks are painted rocks decorated with positive and uplifting messages. Children of Oakland Park after-school care and Active Adult members painted river stones as part of the project. The stones were placed at the school entrance for students and teachers to see, and volunteers also removed shrubs, laid artificial turf, and added a brick border to the area.

The mission of Kindness Rocks is to connect students, parents, teachers, and staff, through simple acts of kindness – bringing the community together to uplift individuals.

Want to get involved? The City of Oakland Park is looking to grow its Volunteer Corps, which is made up of more than 250 neighbors who regularly step up to assist with various needs in the City. Upcoming projects include Neighborhood Cleanups, School Projects, Special Events, a Father's Day Fishing Event, National Good Neighbor Day, and more. To become a volunteer corps member, please contact Steven Mattair, City of Oakland Park Recreation Program Manager at stevenm@oaklandparkfl.gov
