Mr. David Peck and Mr. Tony Mundo, whose residence is on NE 16th Ave., were recognized by the City with a POP Star Award at the Wednesday, June 5th Commission meeting. Peck and Mundo undertook a major rebuild project on their waterfront home, completely transforming it while maintaining an overall look harmonious with the surrounding neighborhood. In addition to rebuilding the home, new landscaping, a driveway, and decorative elements give the home a modern South Florida look and feel. It has been updated for Oakland Park’s Second Century. Congratulations Mr. Peck and Mr. Mundo, we wish you many years of happiness in your updated home.
Sunnyside Dispensary was also recognized with a POP Star Award at the June Commission meeting (see photo below). Located at 499 East Oakland Park Boulevard, this standalone building was greatly improved with a new façade, fresh landscaping, new trees, paint, and an overall cheerful and bright look, beautifying one of the City’s major thoroughfares. We congratulate Sunnyside on this recognition and appreciate their investment in enhancing our community.
The POP Star program encourages owners to take pride in their property and supports ongoing efforts to beautify and improve our community. POP Star Award winners alternate between private residences and commercial properties or businesses that have made a special effort to enhance their property through façade improvements, landscaping, remodeling, or reconstruction projects.
The city’s Beautification Advisory Board members review award nominations and select property owners to be recognized at a Commission Meeting. The Board also volunteers at tree giveaways to support initiatives to enhance local landscaping and increase Oakland Park's green canopy.
