Major Upgrades Coming Soon to Dr. Carter G. Woodson Park

City News Flash Posted on April 08, 2024 | Last Updated on April 08, 2024

We're excited to announce that Dr. Carter G. Woodson Park at 3490 NE 3rd Avenue is about to undergo an incredible transformation! Thanks to the unanimous approval from the City Commission, Oakland Park is gearing up to enhance the treasured park in the heart of the Harlem McBride neighborhood. Planned improvements were carefully designed with extensive input from the community and will include new fitness equipment, a rubberized playground surface, an asphalt parking lot, landscaping, drainage, and site furnishings. The basketball court will also get a remarkable makeover with a new court, seating, and lighting. The park's exciting evolution began in 2023 when an empty lot next to the park was converted into a community garden with raised beds, fencing, and a walkway. The city secured over $1.23 million in grant funding for the $1.47 million project, which will kick off later this spring.
