City Awarded $2 Million to Renovate Collins Community Center

City News Flash Posted on March 04, 2024

Oakland Park has done it again! The City secured another $2 million in grant funding. This time, the award is for federal funding through the Florida Department of Commerce (recently renamed FloridaCommerce) Office of Broadband and will go towards the Collins Community Center, located at 3900 NE 3rd Avenue.

Grant funding will be used to renovate the center to better serve Oakland Park’s lower-income residents with educational support, employment training and opportunities, and telehealth needs. The project also aims to establish a technology hub at the center and a temporary relocation of the Ethel M. Gordon Oakland Park library during construction.

The City will work closely with FloridaCommerce to develop tasks and deliverables for the project and execute the grant agreement. The City looks forward to sharing additional details as the project progresses.

The Collins Community Center project is one of 29 throughout 18 counties in Florida expanding access to various services, including healthcare, workforce development, education, and internet access for underserved individuals. Since 2015, the City has secured over $57.7 million in grant funding for various projects to strengthen infrastructure and enhance the quality of life in Oakland Park.
