Drainage Improvements to Begin on NE 6th Avenue

City News Flash Posted on February 12, 2024

In the last 15 years, Oakland Park has invested more than $60 million into stormwater improvements, including the $11 million LERIX pump station on the Sleepy River, which moves water out of the Lloyd Estates neighborhood and into the C-13 canal.

Additional drainage improvements are coming soon to NE 6th Avenue, between NE 38th Street and Commercial Boulevard, thanks to funding from the Broward County Mobility Advancement Program (MAP) through the “Penny for Transportation” sales tax. The project will include the installation of new pipes and underground infrastructure to strengthen resilience and make the area less vulnerable to flooding. Construction will occur in two Phases, with Phase 1 from Commercial Boulevard to NE 46th Court and Phase 2 from NE 46th Court to NE 38th Street.

Phase I construction is expected to begin on February 27th and be completed by July. Work will primarily occur in the medians and swales on NE 6th Avenue. Flagmen will be on-site to help with traffic flow. If you have questions, please contact the County Project Manager, Diana P. Rodriguez, P.E., at 954-357-6024 or via email at dirodriguez@broward.org
