  1. Chess Mates Workshop Grades 4-12

    May 3, 2018, 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM @ Ethel M. Gordon Oakland Park Library

    Grades 4-12. You are invited to learn how to play chess by joining an eight-week chess workshop taught by a NSCF master chess instructor on Thursdays, beginning March 15th through May 10th. Some basic knowledge of the game will be helpful but not required. Participants will receive community service hours. Space is limited so make sure you register soon by visiting the library youth services department or by calling 954-630-4372.

  2. Adult Book Club Collaborates with Seniors Acting Up

    Age 18 and up. 
    The Adult Book Club – OPL Bookies presents a special program in May.  Seniors Acting Up, a group of South Florida actors, will be performing a dramatized reading of selections from “Almost Sisters” by Joshylin Jackson before the club launches into a lively discussion of the book.

  3. 46th Annual Illustrate-a-Book Contest Awards Ceremony

    May 3, 2018, 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM @ Jaco Pastorius Park Community Center

    In honor of Children’s Book Week, local students in K-8th grade will be showing off their original artwork related to their favorite book. The evening also includes a special live performance by Bucky & Gigi after the ceremony. Come support children's books and the community’s young budding artists. Light refreshments will be served. This special event is being held at Jaco Pastorius Park Community Center, 1098 NE 40 Court, Oakland Park, FL 33334 and is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Oakland Park and the Friends of the Ethel M. Gordon Oakland Park Library. Good luck to students K-8th grade for their artwork submissions of a book cover illustration of their favorite storybook!
