  1. Civil Service Board Meeting

    May 9, 2017, 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM @ City Hall Chambers

    Members: The Civil Service Board consists of 5 members, appointed as follows: 2 members are elected by secret ballot of all regular employees of the city, who are not covered by a collective bargaining agreement; 2 members are appointed by the City Commission; 1 member is elected by the other 4 board members. Each term of office lasts 3 years. Qualifications: Applicant must be a resident of Oakland Park and registered voter of Broward County. Advocate the application of merit principles for public employment. Not be a city employee, city elected official, or be a relative, as defined by section 116.11, Florida Statues, of any city employee or city elected official. Duties: 1. To advise the City Manager and City Commission on personnel matters; 2. To hear appeals of employees who wish to grieve a decision of their supervisors. Authority: The authority of the Civil Service Board is outlined in Ordinance Section 2-91.

  2. 45th Annual Illustrate a Book Contest Awards Ceremony

    May 9, 2017, 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM @ Jaco Pastorius Park

    This year's awards ceremony will take place at the Jaco Pastorius Park Community Center to accommodate a special live performance by Hans Brinker & the Quick Silver Rocket Skates from the Professional Touring Theatre-Atlantic Cost Theatre. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Ethel M. Gordon Oakland Park Library and the Oakland Park Kiwanis Club. Prizes will be awarded and refreshments will be served. Good luck to students K-8th grade for their artwork submissions of a book cover illustration of their favorite story book!
