Members: The Civil Service Board consists of 5 members, appointed as follows:
2 members are elected by secret ballot of all regular employees of the city, who are not covered by a collective bargaining agreement; 2 members are appointed by the City Commission; 1 member is elected by the other 4 board members. Each term of office lasts 3 years.
Qualifications: Applicant must be a resident of Oakland Park and registered voter of Broward County. Advocate the application of merit principles for public employment. Not be a city employee, city elected official, or be a relative, as defined by section 116.11, Florida Statues, of any city employee or city elected official.
1. To advise the City Manager and City Commission on personnel matters;
2. To hear appeals of employees who wish to grieve a decision of their supervisors.

Adults. Have your taxes prepared for free through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. IRS certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing for qualified individuals at the Ethel M. Gordon Oakland Park Library from January 24 to April 16 each Tuesday and Wednesday from 2pm-5pm. Before going make sure to call the Library at 954- 630-7374 or 954-630-4378 to find out the list of items you need to bring in preparation of your visit. The program is made available through the Hispanic Unity of Florida and services are provided in English and Spanish.
