Adults 18 and over. Based on a true story, this drama film revolves around the efforts of debate coach Melvin B. Tolson (Denzel Washington) at Wiley College, a historically black school in the American South during the 1930s. Tolson uses the power of words to shape a group of students from this small college into a strong and elite debate team that shocked the nation when they defeated Harvard University in a debate competition.
