    Members: The Art and Culture Board has 7 voting members appointed by the City Commission, 4 of whom are residents. Members serve terms of 2 years. Qualifications: Members will be knowledgeable in the field of public or private art, art education, architecture or community affairs, and chosen among the professional categories of: Architecture; Art Education; Landscape Architecture; Professional Artists; and Urban Planning Duties: 1. Act in an advisory capacity in matters pertaining to art and culture programs, including the development of art and culture programs and events for the City. 2. Review projects under section 24-56(H) "inclusion of public art for increased density," or section 24-269(G)(4) "additional public art," which includes art as a public amenity. Authority: The authority of the Art and Culture Board is outlined in Ordinance Section 24-169.

    Membership: The School Advisory Board consists of 7 voting members appointed as follows: 1 member appointed by each member of the City Commission; 1 member appointed by the City Manager; 1 member appointed by the board. Qualifications: Applicant must be a resident of the City of Oakland Park and registered voter of Broward County. No member shall be an employee of the Broward School Board. Duties: To advise the City Commission on all issues relating to educational matters which will impact the quality of education for City residents, or which will impact education facilities located within the City. Actively engage in the formulation of a community partnership so as to insure that all community interests regarding education are identified. Authority: The authority of the School Advisory Board is outlined in Ordinance Section 9-2T1.

Non-Voting Members: 1 representative from the City Manager's Office; 1 representative from the Public Works Department; 1 representative from the Code Enforcement Department. Qualifications: Applicants must be a resident of the City of Oakland Park. Duties: 1. Investigate, study, and recommend plans to the City Commission as to improve the general health, sanitation, safety, and cleanliness of the City. 2. Encourage and recommend the placing, planting, and preservation of trees, flowers and shrubbery on public and private properties. 3. Review and make recommendations on all City landscape projects related to enhancing City parks, buildings, and rights of way when costs exceed $5,000. Authority: The authority of the Beautification Advisory Board is outlined in Ordinance Section 21-235.

To the extent possible members shall be professionals from the disciplines of: Anthropology; Archeology; Architectural History; Architecture; Conservation; Cultural Anthropology; Cultural Geography; Curation; Folklore; History; Landscape Architecture; Planning; Other Related Disciplines Lay persons who have demonstrated special interest, experience, or knowledge in history, architecture, or related disciplines are also eligible to be appointed to the board if there are not enough professional available.

    The City of Oakland Park is seeking community input for a NE 13th Avenue improvement project. Project limits include NE 13th Avenue from Oakland Park Blvd. to NE 40th Place, as well, as the east/west cross streets to NE 12th Avenue.

  2. Community Meeting: Powerline Road Project

    October 26, 2017, 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM @ Collins Community Center

    This project entails the restructuring of a six lane roadway, to a four lane roadway, with the goal of improving safety, spurring economic development, encouraging multi-modal transportation initiatives, and enhancing beautification efforts. Providing for: Landscape enhancement within existing medians. Improved safety of the roadway, for motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians. Addition of bicycle lanes. Enhanced appearance along the corridor. Funding was awarded through the Broward MPO “TIGER” grant for its “Complete Streets” initiative. The grant will help fund $19.1 million dollars for bike and pedestrian improvements within Broward County which includes the Powerline Road Project.
