  1. School Advisory Board Meeting

    October 23, 2017, 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM

    Membership: The School Advisory Board consists of 7 voting members appointed as follows: 1 member appointed by each member of the City Commission; 1 member appointed by the City Manager; 1 member appointed by the board. Qualifications: Applicant must be a resident of the City of Oakland Park and registered voter of Broward County. No member shall be an employee of the Broward School Board. Duties: To advise the City Commission on all issues relating to educational matters which will impact the quality of education for City residents, or which will impact education facilities located within the City. Actively engage in the formulation of a community partnership so as to insure that all community interests regarding education are identified. Authority: The authority of the School Advisory Board is outlined in Ordinance Section 9-2T1.

  2. Police & Firefighters Pension Fund Meeting

    October 23, 2017, 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM @ City Hall Chambers

    Two (2) public members (excluding employees) to be appointed by the city commission, none of whom may be a city commission member, as hereinafter provided; (2) Two (2) members who shall be elected from the police department and the fire department, who shall be members of the system. Broward County firefighters who are members of the system shall be treated as members of the fire department for the purposes of voter eligibility and eligibility to serve as a trustee. (3) The fifth member to be selected by the above four (4) members and approved by a majority vote of all four (4) other board members. City-appointed trustees shall serve at the pleasure of the city commission but shall be subject to reappointment every two (2) years. Employee-elected trustees shall serve a term of two (2) years. The fifth member of the board shall serve a term of two (2) years. A trustee shall hold office until a successor is appointed or elected.

    Members: DRC members include representatives from the following entities: Building City Attorney Engineering Fire Prevention Landscape Planning Police/Crime Prevention Public Works/Solid Waste School District Traffic Urban Design Zoning Duties: The purpose of Development Review Committee (DRC) is for various City departments to complete a technical review of proposed developments and provide written comments for the applicant.

  4. Beautification Advisory Board Meeting

    October 26, 2017, 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM @ City Hall Chambers

    Members: The Beautification Advisory Board membership consists of 7 voting members appointed by the City Commission, and 3 non-voting members. Members serve terms of 3 years. Non-Voting Members: 1 representative from the City Manager's Office; 1 representative from the Public Works Department; 1 representative from the Code Enforcement Department. Qualifications: Applicants must be a resident of the City of Oakland Park. Duties: 1. Investigate, study, and recommend plans to the City Commission as to improve the general health, sanitation, safety, and cleanliness of the City. 2. Encourage and recommend the placing, planting, and preservation of trees, flowers and shrubbery on public and private properties. 3. Review and make recommendations on all City landscape projects related to enhancing City parks, buildings, and rights of way when costs exceed $5,000. Authority: The authority of the Beautification Advisory Board is outlined in Ordinance Section 21-235.

  5. Historic Preservation Board Meeting

    October 30, 2017, 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM @ City Hall Chambers

    Members: The Historic Preservation Board consists of 5 members appointed by the City Commission, 1 member appointed by each member of the City Commission. Each term lasts 2 years. Qualifications: Applicant must be a resident of Oakland Park. To the extent possible members shall be professionals from the disciplines of: Anthropology; Archeology; Architectural History; Architecture; Conservation; Cultural Anthropology; Cultural Geography; Curation; Folklore; History; Landscape Architecture; Planning; Other Related Disciplines Lay persons who have demonstrated special interest, experience, or knowledge in history, architecture, or related disciplines are also eligible to be appointed to the board if there are not enough professional available.
