  3. Tampa Taiko Professional Drumming Ensemble

    All ages. The entire family is invited to experience Tampa Taiko and a fun-filled, interactive program that covers the history of taiko, the music of Japan, modern drumming performance, and drum making using discarded barrels that have been recycled into taiko drums.

    Island City Stage is working with The Ethel M. Gordon Public Library to develop a drama group designed specifically for junior high and high school aged youth. The group is headed up by Island City Stage board member Rick Karlin, who has 30+ years’ experience as an educator, drama club sponsor, writer and entertainer. The workshop will focus on developing performance skills, learning theatrical techniques and terminology as well as doing improvisational work. The club will put on a short performance at the end of the workshop for friends and family. Registration is required. Middle and High School aged students.

  1. Summer Tree Giveaway

    June 23, 2018, 8:00 AM - 11:45 AM @ Wimberly Field

    Residents and business owners are invited to take advantage of Oakland Park’s second Tree Giveaway of the year on Saturday, June 23 at Wimberly Field (4000 NE 3rd Avenue). Included in the summer tree selection are a wide variety of trees (including several fruit trees) and shrubs. The young trees and shrubs come in 3-gallon, 5-gallon and 7-gallon containers for easy transport and planting. The free trees are available on a first come, first serve basis with up to 3 free trees per household or business. Proof of Oakland Park residency or business ownership is required. Information will be shared regarding proper placement of your selected trees, as well as planting, watering and maintenance tips. To ensure this opportunity is enjoyed by all residents, Oakland Park offers a Tree Assistance Program through the City’s Community Volunteer Corps to aid residents who require special assistance in the delivery and planting of trees.
