Congratulations to the Mixed 18 & Over 7.0 team from Oakland Park's Dillon Tennis Center for winning the national title at the USTA League National Championships held at the USTA National Campus in Orlando. The Dillon Tennis team defeated a team from Little Rock, Ark. in the finals 2-1. Earlier in the day, they defeated a team from Eden Prairie, Minn. 2-1 in the semifinals.Oakland Park's team is captained by Kevin Sims and includes Sue Mitchell-Greig, Chuck Greig, Michael Stites, Marcus Pfenninger, Loren Levine, Stuart Flanzer, Eliu Montero, Frances Cubano, Jenna Painter, Eduardo Noriega, Patricia Vegas, Anthony Phillips, Brandon Cox, Marie Ferrigno, Natasha Torres, Maria Lanza, Armando Orozco and Rene Elvir.The Dillon Tennis Center team advanced to the national championships when it won the USTA Florida League Sectionals, capturing its second Mixed 18 & Over 7.0 title in a row, and third in the last four years.Established in 1980, the USTA League has grown from 13,000 players in a few parts of the country in its first year to more than 310,000 players across the nation today, making it the world’s largest recreational tennis league.
