Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Essay Competition Award Ceremony

Topic: What does Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream Speech” mean to you? How has it influenced your adult life? Adults between ages 18 to 30 are invited to participate in an essay competition honoring the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Essays must be double spaced and be between 1000-1200 words. Essays must be submitted to Verna Thomas, Adult Services Librarian @ vernat@oaklandparkfl.gov by January 17, 2020. Winners will be announced at an award ceremony at the library on January 30, 2020 at 6pm, where they will be required to read their essays to the audience and respond to questions during a short Q&A session. First prize will be an Amazon Kindle, second prize a $50 Barnes and Noble gift card, and third prize a $25 Publix gift card. All participants will receive a consolation prize valued at $10 or less. Light refreshments will be served at the award ceremony.
